Practice the Life You Want

As I've been sharing with you over the last few weeks, once you are clear on what you want to change in your life, and you’ve identified the skills you need to fill the gap, it’s go time for making it a reality.


Whether you are trying to lose weight, have more fun, find love or enjoy a more fulfilling and balanced career, change only happens with practice. You will not get better without it. It’s the next step in your formula for success: Clarity + Skill + Practice + Love.

Remember when you were a kid and you didn’t want to practice your designated musical instrument or do your French homework? Doing the work to get better at something you didn’t want to get better at was boring and sometimes seemed pointless, especially when you wanted to hang out with your friends.


Here’s the difference…we are adults now and we get to choose the life we want. We GET to practice the skills that make life easier, happier and more fulfilling. We control how we show up in our 168 hours each week.


Change is so much easier with an empowered mindset and the structure to live differently. Here’s how:


  • Stop distracting yourself and take 5 minutes every morning to focus on what you want for your day

  • Do the skill…literally put it on your calendar - If you are building skill around healthy eating, block time for meal prep. - If you want to learn Italian, set aside time with a tutor, an app or your favorite Italian friend who is willing to teach you. - The same is true of the “soft skills” or soul skills as I call them: If you are building skill to be a better listener or to be more vulnerable in conversations, then pick up the phone to talk to your people.

  • Consistency is key….practice every single day, choose everyday

  • Be realistic...mastery takes more than 3 days so pick your skills and keep practicing forever

  • Celebrate…feel the pride of practicing and notice how your comfort and ability are improving! I keep a success journal for this and invite you too as well.

  • Infuse love into your practice. This applies to everything you do. I don’t mean you have to love practicing. I mean love yourself while you practice. More on this next week.


There was a time when you didn’t know how to walk. Then you subconsciously practiced picking yourself up when you fell and tried again. You cheered and everyone around you cheered.


Your mind, body and soul know how to come together to do the things you really want to do. Get clear, do it again and again and celebrate it.


You have this intrinsic super power within you. Use it for good to live the life you want.
