Over the past few weeks I’ve been offering a new formula for success in all aspects of your life, whether it be better health, a more fulfilling career or deeper connections.
It starts with getting clear about what you want, identifying the skills needed to create it and then practicing these skills into success. Love is the special ingredient that makes it all work. Love makes the difference in what you accomplish and how good your life feels along the way. It isn’t woo woo…. Studies show that being stressed diminishes your ability to learn, retain information and hold connected conversations. The energy from negative self-talk, shame, guilt and judgment create stress within you. Most of us are consistently practicing life with this type of stress, which makes accomplishing our dreams and feeling good about our lives harder. Here’s how it all began: In the success formula most of us were taught, we need to set goals, work hard to achieve them and live happily ever after. So we choose our goals and work really hard. For as long as we are working hard, we can maintain our success and we’re great but….what happens when we are tired, bored or frustrated? We decide that we aren’t working hard enough, which turns into self-criticism: ”I’m lazy and lack discipline.” Then fear kicks in: "I’m not enough." Oh jeez. YES YOU ARE! The changes you want are meant for you. You deserve them! You just need the secret ingredient, love. Infuse love into everything you do and your life gets better and better. You feel better in your body, you achieve more success, you connect into your relationships, you have more patience and life just feels more fun. Here’s how to get started:
Put it on your calendar to practice love. Seriously. Block 5 minutes twice per day to think about what you are doing well. Breath it in and feel it.
When you notice yourself pushing too hard to make something happen and it’s not working, stop and walk away. Do something kind for yourself instead and notice your energy shift. What flows from peace could be even better than what you were pushing for.
When your critical voice blasts you for something you’ve done “wrong” remind yourself that you’re human, and lovingly learn from your mistake. Use the same types of words and tone you would with a small child learning how to ride their bike.
It’s how you practice life that creates the life you have.
The choice is yours: Would you rather practice life with love or with shame, anger, frustration and victimhood?
Everyone wins when you choose love. I hope this series has helped you consider what it really takes to create meaningful change in your life. When you combine Clarity + Skills + Practice + Love, you are set up for success and thriving becomes possible. Are you ready to put it all together? Reflect on these questions to map your pathway to a life you love:
